Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-tls.c: 493: _dl_allocate_tls_init: Assertion `listp->slotinfo[cnt].gen <= _rtld_local._dl_tls_generation' failed!
caused by dlopen (in _dl_add_to_slotinfo and in dl_open_worker) doing
listp->slotinfo[idx].gen = GL(dl_tls_generation) + 1;
//...
if (any_tls && __builtin_expect (++GL(dl_tls_generation) == 0, 0))
while pthread_create (in _dl_allocate_tls_init) concurrently doing
assert (listp->slotinfo[cnt].gen <= GL(dl_tls_generation));
Backported below patch that can fix the following bugs with a lock
that prevents DTV setup running concurrently with dlopen or dlclose.
Bug 19329: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=19329
Bug 27111: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27111
Patch: 0031-elf-Fix-data-races-in-pthread_create-and-TLS-access-BZ-19329.patch
Link: https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=patch;h=1387ad6225c2222f027790e3f460e31aa5dd2c54
It requires a supporting patch
0030-elf-Refactor_dl_update-slotinfo-to-avoid-use-after-free.patch
Link: https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=patch;h=c0669ae1a629e16b536bf11cdd0865e0dbcf4bee
After adding the above fix there is a number of racy read accesses
to globals that will be changed to relaxed MO atomics in follow-up
patch given below.
This fixes the regressions and avoids cluttering the main part
of the fix.
0032-elf-Use-relaxed-atomics-for-racy-accesses-BZ-19329.patch
Link: https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=patch;h=f4f8f4d4e0f92488431b268c8cd9555730b9afe9
Backported the below patch to add the test to check the added fix.
0033-elf-Add-test-case-for-BZ-19329.patch
Link: https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=patch;h=9d0e30329c23b5ad736fda3f174208c25970dbce
Previously modids were never resused for a
different module, but after dlopen failure all gaps are reused
not just the ones caused by the unfinished dlopened.
The code has to handle reused modids already which seems to
work, however the data races at thread creation and tls access
(see bug 19329 and bug 27111) may be more severe if slots are
reused. Fixing the races are not simpler if reuse is disallowed
and reuse has other benefits so upstream added fix
https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=commit;h=572bd547d57a39b6cf0ea072545dc4048921f4c3
for the following bug.
Bug 27135: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27135
But in glibc upstream the commit 572bd547d57a was reverted as the
issue with 572bd547d57a patch was the DTV entry only updated on
dl_open_worker() with the update_tls_slotinfo() call after all
dependencies are being processed by _dl_map_object_deps(). However
_dl_map_object_deps() itself might call _dl_next_tls_modid(),
and since the _dl_tls_dtv_slotinfo_list::map was not yet set the
entry can be wrongly reused.
So added below patch to fix Bug 27135.
0034-elf-Fix-DTV-gap-reuse-logic-BZ-27135.patch
Link: https://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=patch;h=ba33937be210da5d07f7f01709323743f66011ce
Not all TLS access related data races got fixed by adding
0031-elf-Fix-data-races-in-pthread_create-and-TLS-access-BZ-19329.patch,
there are additional races at lazy tlsdesc relocations.
Bug 27137: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27137
Backported below patches to fix this issue.

The fix 0031-elf-Fix-data-races-in-pthread_create-and-TLS-access-BZ-19329.patch
for bug 19329 caused a regression such that pthread_create can
deadlock when concurrent ctors from dlopen are waiting for it
to finish.
Bug 28357: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=28357
Backported below patch to fix this issue.

We've noticed that:
MACHINE=qemuarm oe-selftest -r glibc.GlibcSelfTest.test_glibc
ends up with one process growing to about the size of system memory
and triggering the OOM killer. This has been taking out other builds
running on the system on the autobuilders and is one cause of our
intermittent failures.
This was tracked down to:
WORKDIR=XXX/tmp/work/armv7vet2hf-neon-poky-linux-gnueabi/glibc-testsuite/2.33-r0
BUILDDIR=$WORKDIR/build-arm-poky-linux-gnueabi QEMU_SYSROOT=$WORKDIR/recipe-sysroot
QEMU_OPTIONS="$WORKDIR/recipe-sysroot-native/usr/bin/qemu-arm -r 3.2.0" \
$WORKDIR/check-test-wrapper user env GCONV_PATH=$BUILDDIR/iconvdata LOCPATH=$BUILDDIR/localedata LC_ALL=C $BUILDDIR/elf/ld-linux-armhf.so.3 \
--library-path $BUILDDIR:$BUILDDIR/math:$BUILDDIR/elf:$BUILDDIR/dlfcn:$BUILDDIR/nss:$BUILDDIR/nis:$BUILDDIR/rt:$BUILDDIR/resolv:$BUILDDIR/mathvec:$BUILDDIR/support:$BUILDDIR/nptl \
$BUILDDIR/nptl/tst-pthread-timedlock-lockloop
although other glibc tests appear to use 16GB of memory before failing
anyway. By capping the VM size to 8GB, we see the same number of failures
but no OOM situations. There may be some issue in qemu or the test which
could be improved to avoid this entirely but this provides a necessary
and useful safeguard to other builds and doensn't appear to make the
situation worse.
On a loaded system OOM may not occur as the test timeout may be triggered
first. An experiment with a 5GB limit showed an additional 7 failures.

Patches are currently, crossing across repo boundaries, between glibc

accordiningly, with this patchset makery patch is spun out since that
applies to localedef alone.

A recipe needs to be created for the test suite due to the dependency
chain between libgcc -> glibc -> libgcc-initial, and the requirements of
the test suite to have libgcc for compilation and execution.
The glibc test suite does not use dejagnu like the gcc test suites do.
Instead a test wrapper script is used along with the assumed dependency
of having the same filesystem available on build host and target. For
qemu linux-user the same filesystem is inherently available, for remote
targets NFS is used. Separate test wrapper scripts are created for qemu
linux-user or ssh targets, with the same TOOLCHAIN_TEST_* variables used for
configuration.

The hard link resolver that is built into localedef cannot be run in
parallel. It will search sibling directories (which are be processed
in parallel) and perform a creation of a .tmp file and remove the
original and move the .tmp file in. The problem is that if a probe
occurs a hard link can be requested to the file that is being removed.
This will lead to a stray copy or potentially, on a loaded system
cause race condition which pseudo cannot deal with, where it is left
with a hard link request to a file that no longer exists. In this
situation psuedo will inherit the permissions of what ever the target
inode had to offer.
In short, there are two problems:
1) You will be left with stray copies when using the hard link
resolution that is built in while running in parallel with
localedef.
2) When running under pseudo the possibility exists for uid/gid
leakage when the source file is removed before the hard link can
be completed.
The solution is to call localedef with --no-hard-links and separately
process the hardlinks at a later point. To do this requires the
inclusion of the hardlink utility found in modern versions of
util-linux. Most host systems do not have this, so it will be
included with the cross-localedef binary.
There are two patches here. The first imports the raw version of
hardlink.c and a couple of header files directly from util-linux. The
second patch applies the fix-ups to make it compile, along with a
change to recipe to package the new binary.

Currently for non-IA platforms, glibc is not reproducible as host system
paths are being injected into target binaries. These spread through
all target binaries on the system which link to the libc.
Add a patch which injects .file directives into the assembly pieces
and works around this issue until a better solution can be found.

On other distros like ubuntu/centos, libnss-db usually provides:
- The libraries
- The Makefile to create database
(in /var/db for centos, /var/lib/misc/ for ubuntu)
- The makedb command (it's in glibc-common for centos7)
What we had is:
- The libraries are in glibc-extra-nss
- The Makefile is removed
- The makedb command is in glibc-utils (lack of dependency)
So when glibc-extra-nss is installed but glibc-utils is not,
we see error like:
nscd[165]: 165 checking for monitored file `/var/db/group.db': No such file or directory
nscd[165]: 165 checking for monitored file `/var/db/passwd.db': No such file or directory
And there is not an easy way to create these databases.
To fix the issue:
- Re-package the libraries into libnss-db
- Don't remove the Makefile and add it in libnss-db
- Add RDEPENDS for libnss-db on glibc-utils
- Provide a shell script, makedbs.sh, to generate the db files.
This is to avoid dependency on 'make'.
Notes:
1. For external toolchain, an extra package 'libnss-db' need to be provided
If replacing glibc from core.
2. I've check the git history of nss/db-Makefile, the last two functionality
fix is as below.
- fix non-portable `echo -n` usage -- Date: Thu Aug 6 04:14:20 2015 -0400
- Fix db makefile rule for group.db -- Date: Fri Nov 11 14:43:36 2011 +0100
So I think this file is stable enough. And using makedbs.sh which is crafted according
to that file is not likely to cause maintanence problem.

corrected to use the environment variable which avoids nasty build
failures when archiving locales in images.

The expected modern behavior for dealing with adding ld.so.conf entries
is to add a file to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/. In order to do this, ld.so.conf
needs to explicitly include that /etc/ld.so.conf.d/*.conf. Make it so.

Fedora28[1] has decided to go ahead and use libxcrypt to replace libcrypt from glibc
despite the change not having merged into glibc upstream yet. This breaks the use of
uninative in OE on fedora28 since binaries there are now using new symbols only found
in libxcrypt. libxcrypt is meant to be backwards compatible with libcrypt but not the
reverse.
Since this will impact OE in the next release cycle, this changes nativesdk only
to use this new model and adds libxcrypt to work in that case. This allows us to
build a uninative which is compatible with fedora28 and previous other OSes.
In order to work, recipes will now need to depend on virtual/crypt where they use
libcrypt since its now a separate library and we can't depend on it from glibc to
preseve backwards compatibility since glibc needs to build first. For now, only the
problematic nativesdk recipes have been fixed up. For target use, the default
provider remains glibc for now. Assuming this change is merged into upstream glibc,
we will need to roll this change out for the target but we will do this in the next
release cycle when we can better deal with the resulting bugs.

localedef has no way to specify which locale archive to use, and the
